I use NCVerify to simulate CNC cutter paths. Wanting to capture these simulations for the machinist to view prior to cutting the part, I downloaded and installed Snagit8. I immediately received the following error:
    Microsoft Visual C++ Debug Library
    _______________________________________________________
    (X) Debug Assertion Failed!
    Program: C:\express\ncverify\ncverify.exe
    File: wingdi.cpp
    Line: 832

For information on how your program ... see Visual C++ documentation on asserts.
Press (Retry) to debug the application.
    Abort Retry Ignore
    ________________________________________________________
Since I do not have access to either application's source code, I have no way of knowing what caused this problem. So, I did the following:
    Uninstalled Snagit8
    Rebooted -- problem persisted
    Uninstalled NCVerify
    Rebooted -- Installed NCVerify
    Rebooted -- problem persisted
reloaded video drivers and Rebooted -- problem persisted
Contacted Techsmith.com, the author of Snagit, and they have not responded to multiple requests for help. Posted on their user forum, and received no help from other users.
NCVerify is an unsupported product of a defunct company.
I believe a .dll or registry key became corrupted or changed by the installation of Snagit.

Here is a debug session from trying to execute NCVERIFY:

Have you looked at http://www.ncverify.com/. There is also a support forum specifically for their software: http://cgtech.com/forum/

This problem appears to be specific to the ncverify software, so I think you may have trouble getting a solution on a general forum like this one.

I have a pet hate of snagit. User keep installing it on my network when all they want to do is screen captures. All you need to do a screen capture is press the "Print Screen" button on your keyboard, and then paste the result into a graphic program. Even MS Paint will do that. My personal favourite is to use GIMP for either capturing the screen or using with "screen print" button and then aquiring from clipboard in Gimp.

So once you get ncverify up and running again, there are plenty of alternatives to using snagit for screen captures.

Thanks Reggie. I was not aware of any support for NCVerify. I want to capture the animation of cutting sculptured surfaces with ball-nose endmills, which is better seen with animation rather than stills. I had never heard of Snagit, and it looked to be just what I needed. That is until I installed it and it caused NCVerify to crash.

Actually, I just went to the website you referenced and although CGTech is using the NCVerify name, (and the use / function of the software is the same) it is not the same as the old Sirius Systems http://www.siriussys.com which is now owned by MachineWorks, LTD. of Sheffield, England. They used to be part of LightWorks in the UK. Although I do not have an up to date quote, the last time I checked, this software is in the neighborhood of $12K USD for one seat.

We are in the process of migrating from a non-integrated CAD/CAM system to Unigraphics NX-3 which will eventually allow me to do what I want to do anyway. I was really just trying to cobble together an intirim system until we get up to speed on NX-3.

I can do the simulation on a different computer, but that is just not convenient. As an old codger, I like convenient!
