Well I have just about broken the search button this morning in an effort to find the answer to my unique upgrade issue. Here is the situation...

I am running Netscape 7.2 to manage my 5 email accounts. Each account has custom folders and a large amount of emails from over the last year or so. When I installed Thunderbird everything looked to have gone well. Address books imported, account info imported, custom folders imported but here is the catch. Only 3 of the 5 accounts imported actually have imported emails. The last two accounts have NO email data at all.

The next odd thing is the in each of the 3 accounts that did import emails there are NO current emails. The newest email imported is from 8/2005.

Thunderbird can send and receive from all 5 accounts without issue.

Has anybody seen this before? Is there work around for this? I am assuming it has to do with the large amount of emails I have in each of these accounts but with that said I don't understand why it imported only email of only 3 of the 5 accounts.

    Thanks in advance,
    Oreo

I have never done an automatic importing, because I don't trust it. It may, very well work, but I rather do these things by myself. Saying that, I must say that a tricky feature of Thunderbird is the Global feature. That will send everything to the Local Folders. I don't like it a bit, because I like to have my accounts in their own folders. Is it possible that your folders ended up in the Local Folders?
If so, you can move them to your account of choice as subfolders, from the program , or manually. Otherwise, you may have to go to your Netscape Mail folder, and do the transfer manually, making sure that if any old file had the same name as a present file, the old one should be renamed first, and then copied/pasted. This is to prevent overwriting.
This is just a general statement. Ask more questions, if it does not ring any bell.

    Thanks Westside

You got me pointed in the right direction. I got to poking around and copied all my Netscape Mail files to the Thunderbird folders and Poof like magic everything was there. It was missing one address book but I just exported it from Netscape and imported it into Thunderbird. Everything seems to be working just fine now. I knew it really shouldn't be to hard to get it right but I need somebody to point me in the right direction.

    Thanks again,
    Oreo

Glad to help. In all cases, you don't need to copy all the files, especially not the .msf (header files). As long as you did the copying and pasting with both programs closed (in Windows Explorer), you will be ok.
