    Hi guys,
this is my first thread on this forum.

i'm having a pig of a job setting up my desktop and laptop to 'see' each other so I can transfer files.
my old latop did this - and I cant remember how to set it up.
I have a wireless router for my broadband which both laptop and desktop can access.
    Both machines are running XP

in My Computer properties I changed the workgroup so they were both the same "Germander "
I have set a few folders on each machine to share over the network.

initially on the laptop I could see the desktop and transferred some files from it.
now when I try to explore the desktop from the laptop, I get a message:
"\\TwigletDesktop is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of the server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found "

this also happens when trying to access the laptop 'Twiggy' from the desktop.

they can both ping each other.

    can anyone help?

    thanks,
    Matt

    thanks for the links.
I'm using XP Home so simple file sharing is always on.
    I enabled the NetBIOS thingy.

unfortunately I just cant see 'Twiggy' (thats the laptop) in the "Germander" workgroup on the desktop..
    any ideas why?

and on the laptop if I click on the "Germander" workgroup it says that \\Germander is not accessible etc etc...

    this is really frustrating me

it worked when I initially set it up!!
then stopped the next time I tried using it!

    with you

Hi, I have the exact same issue. It worked in the past, but cannot get them to see each other now. I have posted a similar thread, so maybe together we can get this straightened out. ONly difference is, I am running XP pro on desktop and XP media center on laptop. If anyone helps, me I'll pass on the info. Jay
