    Hi all,

I have been using Outlook Express for years and this problem has me stumped. Here's what's happening:

When I come home, I open up OE and download emails, delete the spam and read the ones I want to read. Then I close OE. I surf the net (for whatever reasons) and then later on I want to play an online game. So I log into WoW.

As I enter to the sign in screen, WoW will suddenly minimize into the system tray and the last 3-4 emails I read in OE suddenly pop up one on top of another. The body of the email is always blanked out.

I close out the emails, try to open up WoW and it happens again. I've even tried going into OE, deleting the emails that pop up, go back to WoW and it STILL happens. The only way I can stop it is to reboot.

This is a most strange situation. Does anyone have any ideas what's going on and how to stop this?

    Thank you!

    Robin

    P.S. I use Windows XP

Well, I ran Spybot and defragged and it's not doing it anymore. I'm not sure what caused this but I expect it will happen again.

Well, this happened again. This time, I opened up my OE and in my In Box and other folders, it was empty. The emails are there, it's just showing a blank screen on the list of email side.

I closed out and went to WoW and it minimized again into the system tray and opened up 11 emails this time...none of which I could read the text portion.

Do you think it's the OE program? Any way to fix it?

    Thank you,
    Robin

Judging by the absence of any replies it would appear that you have a unique problem :) Which version of XP are you running - SP1 or SP2 and is it fully patched - Home or Pro? This is important in determining how to repair OE.

I suspect that the root of the problem lies with WOW (War of Worlds??) Any chance of narrowing down the options by logging onto WOW on another computer running OE to see if the same problem occurs?

Does the WOW site offer any form of support?

    Hi Pete!

Thanks so much for your reply! I'm running Window's XP 5.1 - Home. I'm afraid to say I can't answer if it is fully patched. How would I go about doing that?

I will check with WoW to see if they have any ideas on this. Thanks so much for the suggestion!

    Robin :)

P.S. No chance of me logging onto another computer as you suggested BUT I have asked friends who have XP, OE and WoW and they are not having any problem. As you said, this is unique!

Simplest way is to go to Windows Update/Microsoft Update and see if you are offered any Critical Updates.

Ok, I downloaded one update and that was it. I went into WOW and it didn't bring up my emails so we shall see. Thanks very much for the help, Pete! Hopefully, this won't happen again.

Well, I'm glad to hear that this weird problem has been resolved although I'm not sure what input I made :) Let's hope it stays resolved.

Did the update refer to Outlook Express by any chance?

    Hi Pete,

Actually, that update didn't have anything to do with Outlook but I think I figured out the problem.....sort of.

WoW has a new News Server that pops up before you get to the login screen. It has never been working. Just last week, it was up and running and has been running all of this week as well. Since that time, this problem hasn't repeated. So I think it must of had something to do with that new server. Now, why it affected Outlook, I don't know but at least the problem seems fixed!

Thanks for your help and replies!

    Robin :)

Yes - sometimes happens - the problem is not with your computer but elsewhere. Glad to hear it is resolved - thanks for the update.
