My CD-RW drive works fine in Windows safe mode.
In normal mode, all it can do is playing audio CDs.
No recording, MP3 is playied with background noise, .EXE won't open.
I scanned systen files with SFC but it was helpless.
Any idea before format & reinstall?

If your CD-RW drive works OK in Safe Mode when only basic Windows drivers are loaded it would suggest that there is no problem with the drive itself, but with drivers loaded in Normal mode.

.exe file will not open - all .exe files or a specific file?

Suggest you first remove the CD-RW drive through Device Manager and reboot.

If this does not solve the problem suggest you uninstall all the software associated with the drive in terms of CD burning, audio, etc and reinstall.

    Thanks for replying.
My good news: someone wanted to help.
My bad news: I had already tried everything.
