Just picked up a used Dell C600 laptop with Win2k installed. In the device manager are four entries for a default monitor. I tried uninstalling them and rebooting. No luck. All four were reinstalled. Since I had a full version of the Win2k CD, I ran a repair install. Still no luck - all four were reinstalled again. All I want is one entry listed. Any help will be appreciated.

Deleted three of the four entries in Safe Mode. Rebooted and all four returned.

Maybe they are defaults for when an external monitor is plugged in? Is this a real problem to you?

Two monitors is the usual number you should see.

No, this does not create a problem. The video quality is excellent. It appears to have something to do with the video display adapter which has the correct driver installed. I can live with it. Thanks for the help.

    checking our display types

If you have the 4 displays in your display applet, are they saying they are the exact same display type? If not, you might want to check out the registry, and see if they are hung in there.

I have had some issues with displays as well as other device information getting hun up in the registry and having to go in and delete all instances of them.

Remember to back up the reg file first!!!!

Good luck........Doesn't uncle Bill just make things so much easier

All four entries are identical. How do I go about deleting what is not needed in the registry? Thanks.
