Hello Folks, Using Windows XP Home Edition and Outlook Express. When I receive an e.mail containing an attachment from my daughter's work computer the attachment will not open. The following message pops up. "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel ". Does the sender or the receiver have the problem? I would be obliged if someone could offer a solution. Regards, William.

JohnB, maybe you can help me, too. I did download the PP viewer; I see that I have the software now; but I still get that message about file association. Do you have any idea why? I've even removed the PP viewer and re-downloaded and re-installed it; still no luck.

Hello Alice, can you open the Powerpoint View, then click on File>Open select the PPS file you want to view then click OK? That should open the file for you. If you are trying to view the file by double clicking it before the viewer is open, that may be why you are getting that message.

One more thing to try, if the PPS file is an attachment to an e-mail save it to your hard drive first, then use PowerPoint View to open it as I described above.

By double clicking on the file in the e-mail, it has to be associated with PP before it will open.

aks--Once you have installed the PP Viewer, try right clicking on a .pps file, then Open With. You should be offered a choice of programs with which to open the file. One should be PowerPointViewer. Click on it. In the next window check the box at the bottom "Always use the selected program... "|OK.
This will open the .pps file. But close it.
Now see if just clicking on the .pps file will open it.
