Don't worry. If something goes wrong while flashing, you would definately become an expert - trying to start the computer.

I can see the memory count after a cold boot, or when I exit the BIOS...As long as Quick Boot is disabled.

I will probably update the BIOS sooner or later. The instructions are a bit involved, so I will have to pay attention to what I am doing. FWIW, I did a firmware upgrade on my Lite-On CD-RW with no problems...Except that it triggered WPA.

Thanks for the link mattman...I'll check it out.

If, from a cold boot, you see the memory count, it sounds like all is well. You should not necessarily see it from a warm boot, the BIOS has already checked it when it was first started.

The problem was probably that the mouse was connected to the card. The BIOS was probably expecting to find the mouse connected directly to the motherboard connection, it probably has reserved resources for it. It could not see the mouse until it could load the information through the card, which I might expect is after POST, so it would seem the sequence was mixed up for the BIOS.

If all seems well now, don't worry about the BIOS upgrade, just use it as a last resort.

Windows Restart bypasses the Beep and memory count. Linux restart takes the system all the way back to cold restart (as though you pressed the reboot button on your case).

This is normal for MS Windows. At least from 98 forward.
