Everytime I put a CD in the computer doesn't recognize it.

What can I do to fix this?

In case you need to know:
    OS: Windows ME
    CPU/Ram: 800/128
    Manufacturer/Model: HP

First, if there is a disc in the drive, does the name of the disc show in My Computer?

If it does, and you double click, does that do anything? Try right clicking on the drive > properties > auto play tab and specify what you want to do with the disc.

If not, does the drive spin up at all?

    Regards - Charles

Yes the name shows, yes the atuo play is checked, and yes it sometimes spins up.

Could be loose/bad IDE cable or 4-pin power connector. Also the lens could be dirty.

    Hello CosmoQueen,

Ok, lets try un installing/re installing the drive.

Right click on My Computer > Properties > Hardware > Device Manager and expand the ROM (+) > right click on this ROM and uninstall > re boot.

The OS should re detect the drive.

I'm moving this thead to the Hardware Section.

    Regards - Charles
