    Win XP Home.
Start Menu Tabs is hidden(disabled by admin) -only 2 tabs is visible: Programs and Turn Off Computer. Right click on Start menu also disabled.
Specifically, I need only 'Run' tab, to access required system folders via Run(Control panel, etc)
How to enable 'Run' via registry fix?(or VBS)

Best way I know of is to ask the Admin.

I often thought MS should have named it "Owner" instead of Admin. :D

    Kenton,

If this has been 'disabled by the administrator'... the administrator needs to re-enable the setting.

OK, its third attempt to explain:

Start Menu Tabs is hidden(disabled by admin) -only 2 tabs is visible: Programs and Turn Off Computer. Right click on Start menu also disabled.
Specifically, I need only 'Run' tab, to access required system folders via Run(Control panel, etc) How to enable 'Run' via registry fix or VBScript?

    Kenton,

Perhaps you missed this one at Kelly's Korner? Run Command Missing

Otherwise Policy settings for the Start menu in Windows XP

The point Mr B was making was that if you are not the administrator of the computer, e.g. a PC on an office or work network then you would need to get the admin to make the changes. If you are on your own PC at home I wonder how this situation has occurred - have you logged on as Administrator?

BTW - You will need administrative rights to edit the registry.

Try opening task manager. Then click file>new task (run). If it's a work computer it wouldn't surprise me if that was disabled too though. It may be that it's disabled also when the run command in the start menu is disabled. Could be the control panel and everything else you want to access is also disabled. You can also open control panel applets using a command prompt. Open a command prompt and type the name of the applet you want to open. This page shows the MS applets and what their names are.
Description of Control Panel Files in Windows XP

You can also open regedit or most anything using a command prompt. The catch is that you need to know the name of the file you want to run. Also, if it's not in a folder that's listed in the path, you'd have to type the entire path to the file for it to work.

Yes, I have read this fix also:

    "Run Command Missing
Right click the Start button and select Properties, then Customize. ... "

But right click on Start button is also disabled.
I can open a Task manager, but File>new task (run) also disabled. only 'Exit Task mgr.." visible. MSDOS also hidden.

Originally, almost all was disabled(include task manager). But I managed to find some ways and have corrected this partially, use dougknox utilities

    http://www.dougknox.com/xp/utils/xp_taskmgrenab.zip
    http://www.dougknox.com/security/scripts_desc/regtools.htm

so i'm looking similar VBScript for Run Command.
