    Hi

Just uninstalled a program from my pc (dvd/Cd cover print) which during uninstallation required my windows disk, In order to replace some files. I did this but now the pc will not boot! I get the following message.

The Following file is either missing or corrupt

    Windows root \System32\hal.dll

    please re-install the file!

How would i go about this? Any help would be much appreciated.

    Many Thanks

    Gary

First try repeatedly tapping F8 bdfore windows gives the message and choose the last good configuration.

Or if you can get to safe mode in that menu, suggest you try system restore: start > all programs > accessories > system tools > system restore and see if there's a restore point prior to the change.

Otherwise, post back with result, if any, of failed attempt.

    Update!

My system is set up as follows :

My hard drive is connected via card to allow use of a bigger hard drive 250g so i have to use a third party controller when starting system recovery but when i do this I don't appear to access my CD Rom. Also my hard drive is partioned using partion magic 8 but the boot disk and program disk that it creates do not work.

    Method 2 dosen't work i get errors!

Method 3 dosen't work. May be related to my system set up.

    Method 4 still to try

    thanks

Watch the screen or check manual for keystroke to tap, after POST and before windows starts to load, to enter BIOS Setup and adjust boot order so CD is ahead of hard disk..

Check my bios CD Rom is ahead of Hard drive! But still can't access the dvd. When i'm asked to install 3rd party controller would i need to also install a dvd driver for my NEC 3500-A aswell. Seems a bit strange as it boots from it!!! Any sugestions greatly accepted!

You lost me on your last post. Where does the dvd come in? You don't need driver for CD or DVD other than what comed with windows. Guess i don't know what you're doing. Assuming you can't get to windows; is that so? I could use more information.
