When I got my desktop PC, it came with an OEM version of Windows XP Pro.
Now I want to get a notebook and undecided if I should go for one that comes bundled with OEM Win XP Pro or DOS.

I wouldnt be using my notebook and my desktop at the time except for copying files. I'll use the notebook while travelling.

Is it illegal for me to install the desktop OEM XP Pro onto my notebook ?
If so, wouldnt it be cheaper if I just get another license of XP instead of another OEM version ?

I guess the OEM version cost some $100 or so. I dont know what would be the cost for another license in India.

    Thanks

Yes. And Windows Activation would probably catch you out & refuse to activate.

I think the OEM version would be the cheaper option.

anjanesh, as Arie said you would have to purchase the license for WinXP. Purchase an OEM version as its cheaper (around 20%). Other alternative is to load Linux on your laptop.

Yes - I'll go for the OEM option.
I just got the pricelist from ym dealer.
Interestingly, there are 2 notebooks (HP nx6125 - AMD Turion Based 64 Bit notebook) with the exact spec except one has DOS while the other has XP Pro - the one with DOS is some $100 more than the one with XP Pro ! And I cross-checked with my dealer - this is not a typing mistake - but they dont know the reason of difference.

So now we got to pay more for a DOS based notebook ?
