    Hi-Ramona and All,
Finally bit the bullet and d/l TB....So far, it's working well, imported all my NS 7.0 mail and files...But, I can't get mail?
Must be some setting I'm not seeing correctly? I can get mail in NS7.0 just fine, can't get it in TB?? Certainly glad I didn't uninstall NS7.0
Since I upgraded to SBC DSL, decided to ween off the old NS platforms. FF works so well, I'm sure TB will be more secure than NS7.0, If I can get it to work.
Response from TB - won't accept my password! It's never changed from NS7.0, just will NOT take it. In server settings, nothing is changed, identical to ns7.0 settings. Wonder if in "local directory" area something needs changing?
    It's pointing to mail.ISP.net....
SBC DSL claims they have NO affect on incoming mail? No help there! My ISP says there's no problem on their end. I never had a problem getting mail when I changed to SBC, so they are probably correct!!
    Thanks for any suggestions/ help
    John in Dallas.

Thunderbird should import the settings from Netscape. Now, did you have an isp.net account, before getting your present one? What do you see in your Thunderbird Mail folder? Compare the folders in NS7.0, on the hard drive with those found in TB.
By the way, Ramona, in her Netscape Solutions, which apply, in most cases with Firefox and Thunderbird, tells about the locations .
It is up to you to fill in what in the final folder name.
In my case, I haver done the automatic importing, and, did it, strictly, manually, but you should be able to correct what you have. If you have redundant folders, delete them. They will not go away, when you remove the account, just like profiles are not removed when the program is uninstalled.
And, check your password manager. If there is some oddball username and password, delete it.
If the settings for your Thunderbird Local Directory is similar to that of NS7.0, except for the profile info, then you may have some problem.
My Thunderbird Mail has this type of Local Directory: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Thunderbird\......\Mail\Cox
    And, NS7.2 has: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Netscape\Profiles\profilename\blahblah.slt\Mail\Cox
    I have install the Netscape profile in a different location, and rename the account to plain Cox. I have five active accounts, and the program is not cooperating in placing the same name which are easier to remember, but rather have them all as: pop.central.cox.net (-1 to infinity added for the other accounts; my Cox2 was pop.central.cox.net-1,etc.}

    Hi John,

Sorry to hear that you're having problems with your Thunderbird Mail. I did find email settings here, for SBC DSL: http://help.sbcglobal.net/article.php?item=287
I wasn't sure which of these you use, but thought you might check your port setting, etc.

When you get the password error, can you post the exact message? Also, note whether or not there is a checkbox for "Use Password Manager to remember this password ". Could it be that you have made a typo, or upper/lower case could be incorrect?

I think ISP Service Techs are told to use this response regardless of the problem! :p They ARE the mail server, for heaven's sake!

    TB con't

    Hi-all,
Still trying to get tb to get mail. Just won't accept pass word???
I've tried to screen print my server settings,,,,won't take in this window, it freezes...
Tried to attach,,wouldn't take that either? How can I send you the proper information in order for you to help??
This forum is my only/last chance for help....SBC won't help,,,my ISP won't help, they don't support anything but out look....
TB points to its profile and directory, totally separate from NS7.0..I don't understand what's wrong. If I can upload somehow my settings, perhaps you will see something I can't.
    Thanks,
    John in Dallas.

    John,

Do you have IrfanView installed? It's a free graphics viewer, and will take a screen shot of your settings, save it as a JPG file, and you can then upload the file.

    IrfanView: http://www.irfanview.com/

Once installed click on: Options | Capture/Screenshot
    Settings: Left to right
    Foreground window
Automatic - timer delay 10 seconds
    Include Mouse cursor: enabled
Save captured image file as: (name the file)
Destination directory: (create folder for jpg's/screen shots)
    Save as: JPG JPEG format

Then you will have no problem uploading. Note that there is a 250 KB limit. You can resize the image in IrfanView if too large, by clicking on:
    Image | Resize/Resample

    Westside,

In the Capture Setup, the first setting tells IV what to capture:

Whole screen = the entire open window

Foreground window = the current open screen, e.g., a setting window in Firefox
(I always use this setting for my screen shots, rather than the below setting)

Foreground window - Client area = window without caption, menu and status bar (I've never used this option)

    Ramona,
something else must be needed. I got as many as five screen captures of my desktop screensaver. But never anything else. If I work with anything else, and let's say, now FF1.5.0.1 is open, the moment I click on IView, FF is minimized. I have used other screen capture programs which show the image in their window, but IView does not do that. A file is saved, but it is always of the desktop. And, with a 10 sec setting I get one file every ten seconds.
Obviously, i am missing at least one step, but what is it?

    Westside,

If you want to capture a screen other than the Desktop, then you must first open that screen (the one you wish to copy) and then IView. If it is a full size screen then IView will open in a full size screen covering the Firefox screen, and the screen you wish to copy, but not minimizing them.

There is a sound file at the 10 second timer, so turn up your speakers. You must close IView immediately, or it will continue to snap screen shots...

Ok, I got it. It must be the timing because I thought I had done it that way.
This time I open Firefox (as an example this page would do), then I had to minimize Firefox,to dig out IView (first time that I would have found a Quick Launch icon useful), then maximize Firefox, and finally maximize IView again, and it worked.
Now, not being a subscriber, nor having an active website, will it work? And, how? Darn it! The file is 267Kb!
In any event, I know of a way to do it for e-mail purposes.

    TB-the saga continues!!

    Thanks - Ramona - Westside,
I have two HD's, I just went into D: and checked my TB settings, it works just fine?? Recieving and sending??
The local directory is different than C: it is ///D:/docs and settings/john's drive/application data/TB/profiles/*&^%#$%.default/mail/mail.ev1-1.net

This is the only mail client on this D: drive, perhaps that's the difference.
I believe NS7.0 and TB aren't agreeing on something...
On C: all I have at the end of tb's local directory -after default -mail.ev1
I just got home from work after a 12hr shift!!!! I'm sleepy!!! If I can think clearly enough, I'll try what I've found on D: in C: Sure can't hurt, I've tried about everything else!
Thanks for the tip on "screen print" thingy!! I think I have clip book turned OFF in services, that's the problem....I've screen print in word pad then tried to upload to this page, but it said "no document "??? Strange,,,since I used to do that frequently...After some sleep, I'll check my services...
Hope what I've found on D: will help solve the problem on C:
Will let you'all know later///thanks for all your great help..
    Sleepy John in Dallas.

No, you can't upload files unless you are a subscriber. If you were, there is an option, just below the message window when replying, for "Manage Attachments ". That's where you upload your file...

    John,
I hope that you get some sleep. I know the feeling.
I quoted the entire message, and I am not 100% sure of what you are saying.
NS7.0 and TB don't have to agree on the location of the profile.
Leaving the drive issue aside, and, assuming that you let the programs do their things, NS7.0 will have a path like this for its mail account:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profile_name\*.slt\Mail\pop.isp_name.net, while Thunderbird would be:C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\*.profile_name\Mail\pop.isp_name.net
for comparison the profile_name=default, while the *.=alphanumeric.
I made a slight correction to the paths shown at Ramona's Netscape Solutions.
Whatever you do to place the profiles outside the default location is up to you, but this part will be constant for TB=*.profile_name\Mail\pop.isp_name.net, and *.slt\Mail\pop.isp_name.net, for NS7.x, and Mozillas.
    I don't have a separate drive, but C:\Moz profiles\Moz1.7.12\*.slt\Mail\pop.
isp_name.net would be my path. I also had a C:\TB profiles\Mail profile (the thing was moved from another oddball location, and it has no name attached to it, although one of my attach is still pointing to it.
So, if you create a TB profile, it will be in the drive of your choice, unless TB had a fit, and decided to fake you out, as it did to me, when, unprompted it placed the profile folders in a My Documents\New Office Files path.
In summary, either everything is normal, or not. But, TB should work (beware of the Global settings!)

    John,

Just to add something else to check, go to the Password Manager, and see if the Mail password is there. If so, delete all entries.

Also, do you have your full email address entered as your username? SBCGlobal requires that you do, if it is SBCGlobal you use.

    John,

Both screen shots worked, and I have downloaded them. The password error looks incomplete, and as if something should follow "USER ".

Your Server Settings look fine, if the local directory path is correct.

Can you post your SMTP setting?

    TB con't

    Hello-All,
Hopefully, the problem is "solved??" It turned out my AV was blocking my pass word??
I found it on the mozilla TB site that CA my etrust AV doesn't agree with TB??
    Have you heard of that?
When I disable AV (snooze) TB works and accepts my pass word.....I even changed it with my ISP, just to be sure, probably didn't have to anyway...
Nothing worked until I snoozed my AV??
Hopefully, this fix will work....I noticed when my AV was active, TB would NOT accept pass word....NS7.0 always worked with full AV in force...Wonder why TB is so configured??
Is this a bug in TB or just an inconvenience??
Haven'nt migrated all my NS7 files,,,just want to be sure this "niggle" is all that's involved...
Thanks All for help....this became a "major" TASK for me to figure out...Perhaps, it will help others using CA myetrust AV...

    John,

Good for you, finding the answer! Disabling AV and Firewall is the first thing we advise when a user can't get their mail. However, the password glitch is what threw me off. I was looking for password troubleshooting articles. You scooped me good and proper! :D

Yes, I have heard of problems with AV programs, and have personal experience with both NAV and ZoneAlarm Firewall blocking my Mail. However, I was unable to connect at all, and didn't get as far as you did.

    TB's a flying!!

    Hi-Ramona,
Thanks for your kindness in continued responses to my TB problem!! So far so good....imported all NS7 files, went smoothly, everything is where it should be.
I'm really curious re' the AV and TB not agreeing on access?? Haven't heard anything from CA yet. Perhaps, there's a program update needed?
NOW, I know why TB worked on my 2nd HD, since my AV there is AVG!!!! No problem!!
Might I encounter problems "snoozing" disableing my AV? Could I pick up a virus or "whatever!!! "??
However, I'm glad I can "retire" my NS7.0 series...It's been a solid, faithful, reliable software suite.
Thanks Ramona for your help, as always...
    John in Dallas.

    John,

Once TB has accepted your password, try enabling your AV. Don't activate the Email protection, only the autoprotect. Does this work for you? I wouldn't browser the Internet without an AV. If all else fails, then use AVG until you get a response from CA.
