    Hi WindowsBBSers,

I have an external modem hooked up to the com port on the computer which dials and tries to connect to my ISP but doesn't actually connect and it times out after two attempts. I have the dip switch settings on the factory recommended settings. Has anyone else had any problems with
a US Robotics 56K Fax Ext PnP Model 5686 modem with Win 2000 pro?

I made sure the driver was installed and active in the modem settings.
It says the name of the modem and everything. I tried swaping out
phone line cables to no avail.

It worked fine on Windows 98se.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. It's getting frustrating.

    Thanks!
    Hammer

Have to ask the obiviious to get it out of the way -> Have you doubled checked that you're dialing a vaild number? If you dial it with a regular telephone do you hear it trying to "handshake" "

Upgrade USRobotics Model 5686D Modem Driver/firmware

    Hi Steve,

I finally figured it out. I went to

    http://www.usr.com/support/product-template.asp?prod=5686d

and had to upgrade the driver and flash the modem. I can now
connect, but only at 44,400k. I'm hoping to tweak the modem
to get it to perform better. Thanks for the reply.
