    Hi All,

I know that one can expect problems with a beta program but has anyone had problems with Defender updates?
With auto update switched on and the "Update available" showing in the task bar, normally selecting "Install" will do just that and the "You have successfully updated your computer" will pop up.
Several times lately after this has happened and I have had the successful message, within two minutes I get the "Update available" warning, and it is the same update, which obviously did not install. No way, after several tries will the update install.
To install the updated definitions I have to de-install Defender, clean the registry, re-download and install Defender. The definitions update OK then.
Not critical for a beta, but annoying.

    Roger:confused:

    r. leale--Next time you get the Updates Available message, go to Windows Update and see if you have any better luck installing the updates from there.

Thanks for the link Pete, I shall try the registry fix the next time I have the problem, but in my case it is exactly the opposite to the problem listed by MS.
After de-installing and re-installing Defender everything works OK for a week or two.

Install successful but then downloads again?

Windows Defender Updates. Then Updates Then Updates, over and over There is now over 30 of the latest in the UPDATE HISTORY. I have turned off auto updates. This happened to me about a year ago also.

At that time it was the Malicious Spyware Search Update from Microsoft. At that time I am sure that they {meaning Microsort}had to finally fix the problem. Will I just wait until they address this one also? Or does anyone Know of A patch or fix. loonychoons Hi Jim & Pete

    Thanks PeteC

I am always happy when I find out that I am not the only one with any given computer problem! I will look over the Info that you suggested. Thanks For narrowing down the search at Microsoft. I was there once and got hopelessly lost.My Family Name CHOWNS hails from a little town north-east of London THAME Right on the border of Oxfortshire and Buckinghamshire and I traced that back to the 14th century. It is supposed to be Son Of Chun Which I traced over to Wales and Cornwall area.

On my mothers side We are Irish and Scots.Kelly, McAllister and Cameron , Mac Donald Clans and Families. Anyway enough of that "don't want to bore you" So T.T.F.N. loonychoons Leonard Chowns

    I uninstalled Windows Defender!

I have tried everything! I can not get That $##@$% program to recognize the latest Update from Microsoft?? I finally deleted and uninstalled everything related to WINDOWS DEFENDER and Installed it afresh The first screen up on the new install said that I have not updated Defender for the last 73 days???? At least I am now not seeing that {YOUR COMPUTER MAY UNDER THREAT} because I have updates off or {YOU HAVE NEW UPDATES AVAILABLE} Now I just DO NOT HAVE DEFENDER AT ALL!!! Maybe when they get the thing sorted out I will try it again. loonychoons

Thank you for your concern Jim.

Yes you are right. I tried every step mentioned in the Link supplied to me from Pete C. No I do not get any Error messages. I have also viewed all the Microsoft's Support and Help That You mentioned.

When the first Update came through, and would not work I was able to uninstall and change the SIGNATURE. However this would not work the second time. This is when the fun started.

I know that the updates are going in and working when I first install a new Update, as it is in the History, and the Windows Defender stand alone site always showed that the system is up to date when I quired it.

My problem seems to be I the Auto Update portion of Microsoft Updates. If I leave It on Auto My system just updates Over and Over again And Again until I turn off Auto update. If I ask Just to notify me it does that Endlessly. If I turn Update Completely off, I just get that Red shield saying that I could be In danger {which Really Bugs Me}.

So with Windows defender Removed ,And Auto or manual Update check is asked for, My computer does not Know It is even missing anything. Which is the way it is now.

P.S. before when my system said that I needed an Update It always said that The Download & Install contained { 0 Kb. and 0 min.} to install. We know that this info is wrong? Thank You loonychoons

    I deleted it.

It doesn't seem as though the benefits outweigh the hassles.
I'm going to try to make do with Adaware, Spybot and SpywareBlaster.

    Wishful thinking!!!

I thought that my Windows Defender Updates was Fixed?-----BUT----It started updating and/or asking to update that same update from last week again. Just out of the blue? How many time or copies of {Definition Update 1.14.1395.2 for BETA Windows Defender (KB915597)} Does it really need? I think that APPROX. 50 should be enough. I will hope that they Fix this BETA soon. loonychoons

    Bypassed MS support!

Jim no I did not want to use up one of only two Free Problem Support that I get with Micro-Soft when I bought my Computer.I feel that they will finally fix the problem like they did when they first brought out that Malicious Software update awhile ago.The same thing happened then with the endless updates just kept coming !! So I just waited and sure enough they fixed it.They want $45.00 per problem After Two freebies. Thanks loonychoons

    windows defender error 0x8050800d

got that during run of defender, and cant find out a thing about it. any ideas? first time it has had an error (oh it closed down, stopped the scan)

i like microsoft anti-spy much better

just ran full scan on windows defender,no error message, guess it was a one time thing,i hope. i hate it when microsoft has no idea what error message im referring to,makes me think computer is generating its own error message number.

    My Defender is fine now?

I am sorry, but I do not Know How to redirect persons to another post, so I copied it to the two post that I was following? I hope that I have not broken any rules? P.S. {maybe someone could give me some direction} loonychoons

    Windows Defender Updates

Looks Like Microsoft has Fixed Updating?

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My system is working "A1" now ,I get a notification that Microsoft has new updates for my XP.

I go to my Microsoft update page, Ask for updates! then Presto I get them, If for my system I download and Install And They are successful.

If they are NEW ITEMS for Defender I download and they actually go where they are supposed to and Voilà all goes well and the latest definitions or whatever, are installed properly and THIS IS THE IMPORTANT PART they are recognized by my system as actually being there.

Thanks to everyone that helped me, but waiting for Microsoft to fix their problem was the right option, I feel, {especially when it is still a BETA release} loonychoons
