    Hi,
I have a freshly formatted hard drive and a windows 2000 disk.
I have no floppy start up disk. how do I install win 2000?
I tried setup and it said It would not run from DOS. Can I make a floppy start up disk from the CD?
    Thanks
    Lewis

Change the "Boot Sequence" in the BIOS to boot with CD Rom first.

After a fresh install, you need to install drivers for all the hardware in your computer. They may be on CDs, or download drivers from manufacturers' web sites.

    I have.

    Hi,
I have installed the software from CD's. I have also downloaded the software from ATI's website. It says it is for win2000 but it does not install the whole package, I used the ATI easy install, it did not install the DVD player, TV or maybe some other features. I have not tried them all. I also have a LG web cam and that won't work. I am going to try the scanner later.
I did get a message somthing like failed registry handle ATIPOL. Right now I am using The win 98se drive, the drive that has most of my 'stuff'. I am trying to get this drive with win 2000 on to replace the win98se as for the last couple weeks I have had DVD problems on the win 98se drive.
People mention go into the bios or registry, how is this done?
    Thanks for your help
    Lewis

BIOS and registry are two very different things. The BIOS is on the motherboard and is accessed via a setup program called up by a keystroke (possibly multiple keys) right after the Power On Self Test and before windows begins to load. The BIOS sets up hardware parameters and allows windows to communicate with hardware.

The registry is software (part of windows) that contains parameters for various windows and program functions. It is a database consisting of several files that one accesses by an editing program called regidit.exe, or sometimes regidit32.exe.

Most folks won't get in trouble working in the BIOS because one can just set it to its defaults anytime there's trouble. Working in the registry is not for the faint of heart. A mistake can destroy windows, making one have to reinstall it, but that's not difficult, except maybe the first time. :)
