I have Norton Anti Virus 2005 on my desktop and it expires in April 2006. I also have Norton Anti Virus 2006 on my laptop. Do you know if I am able to use the same CD I have for AV2006 to update my subscription on AV2005? Do they allow more than one computer on a subscription? I installed it on my laptop in January 2006. Or must I download an update from Symantec?

    Hello rondom,

Don't need the cd to re new the subscription on the Desktop or the Laptop for that matter.

As the anniversary date gets near, you'll get a notice and an option from Symantec to re new thru the internet.

A heads up though, lately Symantec has an option to keep your credit card data and automatically re new without your input the next time the subscription is up for renewal. I think this started with NAV2006.

    Regards - Charles

    rondom,

Staples currently has SystemWorks and Personal Firewall for free after rebates. If you just want NAV, somebody will probably offer that for free sometime soon. It seems to go in waves.

Save the renewal fee - dump Norton and go for AVG Free - far less of a resource hog, just as reliable IMHO and $0.00.

Thank you for all your replies. What a great website. Well, I went ahead and got rid of Norton and downloaded Microsoft Onecare just yesterday and it all went well. I'll see how it goes. I had already downloaded their spyware and that works fine. Are you using the Microsoft products? How are they working?

    Hello Blue,

First, use System Restore to restore to just prior to your attempt at installing the new system works. SR is accessed from all programs > accessories > system tools.

Then uninstall the original one and then install the new one.

    Hi Blue,

Ok, if you can't go back, then just do the uninstall of system works that is there. Then install the store bought system works, don't think you need the old copy there to do that.

You should be able to install the system works seperately, when the install disc starts up, the install process should ask whether to install one or both. You did write that the NIS2006 install went ok.

FYI, GoBack disables System Restore and for the install, disable GoBack - don't know for sure if that had anything to do with the problem or not. After the installation, re enable GoBack.

    Regards - Charles
