I created a simple spreadsheet that lists my stocks by name and number of shares and the value of each. I had a simple math operation performed where the # of shares multiplies the value of each, and then the totals are summed on the right. This column is then totalled so that a box towards the lower right corner of the grid shows the total value of my so-called portfolio. All was well for years.
Suddenly, the totals box , instead of showing the value just shows the entire box filled with perhaps 10 or 12 # symbols: ########.
Each individual stock total still displays properly.
When I hold the cursor over that lower right hand totals box and click it, it will show me the number that belongs there.
How can I restore the spreadsheet so that it always displays the total? This is Excel 2003.
    Thanks.

I find that usually happens when the column width is too narrow.

    EXCEL question

Thanks Whiskeyman. That was the problem! I altered the font size and got the numbers back, though I suspect that was not the correct method for correcting the problem. Now that column is way too wide. I'll figure it out. Thanks again.

You can "drag" the columns smaller or larger...

    Thanks! That was easy.
Another question: Does excel have the capability of charting the value of the portfolio and then display it as a graph?
I enter the value of my stocks and mutual funds on roughly a weekly basis, and would like to see a representation over time of how it's going.
If excel can create such a graph, how do I set it up?
    Thanks,
