When I first boot up my PC, I get the XP screen with my user icon (administrator) on it, I have no password protection, so everything is great. BUt if I leave my computer and during inactivity the screen saver or monitor hibernation kicks in, the user screen reappears again with my user icon but this time wanting a password. The only way to get back to my desktop isto restart the PC. When I do the restart, another message appears telling me other users are logged on and may lose data if I restart. Can I fix this without reformatting the drive? Thanks for any help.

I'm not really sure but until somebody else comes up with something, check this. Right click on your desktop>properties>screensaver and make sure the line that says "on resume password protect" is not checked. Also, in the same window, click the power button, then click the advanced tab and make sure the line that says "prompt for password when computer resumes from standby" is not checked.

When you get the password prompt, have you tried just leaving it blank and clicking OK?
