I have read posts on this problem and still don't know what I need to do next. I have tried a couple suggestions. Tried to upgrade through the control panel under device manager, and downloaded Everest Home Edition (which by the way is not available from it's homepage anymore) Luckily got it from another site. Anyway, it keeps saying I have a Standard PCI Graphics Adapter, and it says the driver I have is the best driver.

Problem?? I still have two color options only, the 2 and 16. I have about a one-inch frame border on the screen around the shrunken screen area. The window being used is not displayed full screen. It drives me crazy. I need to fix these problems. I know this is a common problem. I think my adapter is not correctly identified either, is it?

    OKay, what next?????
I appreciate any info and help.
    Thanks, Brenda

    Brenda,

Welcome to the board. What brand and model is your system? Have you tried their site for any driver updates?

    Hi Mike.

Yes I did look all over for the driver. Nothing seems to come up. I looked in Microsoft and Compaq/HP for it. I have a Compaq Armada 1530 DM laptop.

    Thanks, Brenda

There are no "major" drivers listed at HP. I think you will need to run the utilities CD that came with the computer.

It may be that the drivers are OEM (proprietry) and only available on CD from HP.

I have searched at HP without luck. See if you can find the brand/model of the graphics chip.

It may also depend on having the correct motherboard/chipset drivers installed before Windows can communicate through Plug and Play with the graphics.

    I figured it out!

    Hi Matt.

Thanks for your reply. I looked everywhere for a driver. No luck. I decided to go back to the Everest Home Edition, and look through the info it gave me.
Last night my husband was looking under display in the control panel, and came up with a list of graphics adapters. It gave the option to "change" and listed a bunch, and he was reading them off to me. Home Edition gave me Chips and Techs name with a number. He was reading them off and the Chips & Techs listed rang a bell! We picked the one closest to what EHE gave me and downloaded the driver from the Windows 98SE CD. It worked!!!!!

It restored my colors, and my screen looks normal again. Whew! Thank you Mike and Matt and windowsbbs.com for your help. I never would have figured it out without your help! I recommend EHE to everyone!

    Thanks again,
    Brenda:)
