My Averatec C3500 has begun losing time while shut down. Date and time stay current while machine is on but if fired up after being off for a length of time it displays time and date between the time I turned it off and when I started it back up. For example: I turned it off on 03/31 at 7:29 p.m. and turned it on at 12:23 p.m. on 04/01 but the machine clock showed 03/31 at 11:14 p.m.

It also gives a long beep (maybe two with very little break between) and reboots. This occurs while the white "averatec" screen is displayed.

Any ideas? Could it be a weak cmos battery? If it might be how do you get this thing apart? I found eight screws along the edges and four in the battery compartment. There seems to be more screws holding it together but I cannot see them or feel any ***** holes under the labels. I have removed the drive, memory, and wlan and found no screws beneath any of them.

    Any help greatly appreciated!

    Thank you

    Thanks Bill.

averatec was of no use. I already scoured their site and talked with a representative. The other link you gave me was however a goldmine.

    Thank you.
