Im setting up a Domain with Win2k3 on a network that was in a workgroup on WinNT. The new equipment is a Dell server with Small Business.
There are only 4 users in the network with a network printer and internet
connection. The problem is I can not get the users to beable to load software. Only 4 users and dont really need to administrate them. I have the network drive mapped to the pc's. When I go to install there software for the database i get an error, program must be installed by a user with administrator rights. If I try a run as i get, The specified path does not exist.
I have deleted all the Group Policy's, and put all users in the adminstrator group. I have ran out of ideas. Please help.
    I have had to errors,
Software must be installed by user with administrator privaliges. (Understand that and set the user to admin group in domain)

    and

Setup is unable to decompress and copy all of the program files needed to pr
    oceed with installation.
(The file are able to install on the workgroup setting but not in domain, Confused I'm felling yes.)

Have you logged into the desktop as the user your are trying to RUNAS before? You might have to in order to create the profile and associated temp directories that the installer may be trying to use. Log in once, log out, then log in as the user and try the RUNAS again. Is there any reason why you can't just install it as the admin anyways? The program should still be available to all users to use.

I was trying to load a program from the Domain server but did not have the local rights to install software. Then when I tried to Run As Local Administrator, it could not find the path to the server. I'm assuming its because the local administrator is not in the domain, only the PC its self. But I copied winzip to the PC from the server and was unable to install that. And still was unable to run as local administrator. Ive used the local admin account before so I know the profile existed. I first thought it was a group policy that was not letting me install software, but I deleted all the GPO's. On the domain

Im in the middle of school taking the 70-294 AD class, and the teacher had no understanding of this or not or how to copy Profiles, but thats not the point. Solved that one.

But after some playing with the server a little bit, I got tired of trying to do it the right way and just added the local computer name to Local Users and groups on the server. On the Domain made a global group and made the users members of it. (Dont think I had to do this thou) Then added the Group to the Administrators group of the PC's, from the server. Then when I go to load anything there is not restrictions. Theres problem a better way of doing this but i was pressed from time.
    :D

Just add the domain user to the local admin group on the desktop.
