Have broken into packets to upload a 13266Kb video file and send to myself (as a trial run)which when downloaded came back as 52X257KB .dat files.

My question is how do I package these video files together to play as it came as quite a surprise that the system hadn't repackaged them.

The original file was a 10mb .AVI file taken on my Canon PowerShot A520 digital camera and was a short overview of a weekend retreat that i was wanting to email to my daughter.

First, get rid of the preview pane. It's not necessary but if you click on one of the parts of the file it'll go through a "searching for hyperlinks" routine that will slow things down significantly. Then, highlight all of the pieces of the file by holding down the ctrl key and clicking on each one of them. If they are all together in one bunch in OE you can hold the shift key down, click on the first one and then click on the last one to highlight them all. Then, somewhere in the highlighted files, right click and choose combine and decode. A small window will open with the list of the files to be combined. Make sure they're in the right order and then click ok (or whatever it is). A window will open with the name of the file in the subject line at the top. Right click on it and choose save as and save it.

Only thing is I'm not sure why it comes back as a .dat file. When you save it, you might try giving it an avi extension instead and see if it works for you. Or, perhaps it'll be given the avi extension when you combine the file. Sorry, it's been a while and I don't remember all of the details exactly.

Preview pane not in use.
Each packet opens seperately.
Then, somewhere in the highlighted files, right click and choose combine and decode. A small window will open with the list of the files to be combined. Make sure they're in the right order and then click ok (or whatever it is). A window will open with the name of the file in the subject line at the top. Right click on it and choose save as and save it.

No combine and decode message.

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding you but, don't open them. I'll try again. :) Open OE, press ctrl and in the list of headers in the inbox, click on each header that belongs to the file. Once they are all highlighted, right click on one of the highligted headers and choose combine and decode.

All files highlighted.
Right click...your option not provided..just the normal options if you were to right click, like...OPEN-FORWARD-FORWARD AS ATTACH.-MARK AS UNREAD- MOVE TO FOLDER-COPY TO FOLDER-DELETE
Sorry..not yelling, just emphasizing.

Well, I guess you're right. I tried it myself here and I can't get it to work either. I've done this in the past and it worked fine but it might have been while using the newsgroups. I'll have to check that out but if it was in newsgroups where this worked, I don't know what to say about emails. Doesn't seem to work the way I remember. Anybody else know?

Well, this is odd. I set OE so it would break apart large messages. I then sent myself a picture that was a bit over 1MB in size. I received 8 seperate emails, each with a piece of the picture and then highlighted all of them and chose forward. In the email that opened (the one I was to forward) it showed all of the attached files, each with a dat extension. But, instead of actually sending them, I went to file>save as and chose to save the forward as an eml file on my hard drive thinking it might save it as one with the picture attached. It didn't (it saved the email but with all of the parts seperate) but the the next time I looked in my inbox all of the emails with the picture parts were gone and there was just one there that contained the picture I had sent.

So, I sent myself another large picture. As I was receiveing it, the individual parts showed up in my inbox one at a time and when they were all there they disappeared and were replaced by only one that contained the picture I had sent. I don't know why this happened and don't mean to confuse you but thought I'd post what happened. Why the first one came as seperate emails and the second got combined automatically, I don't know.

Zander,
I really do appreciate you having a shot at this and going to the lenghts of trouble that you have to duplicate the problem I am experiencing.

Why the first one came as seperate emails and the second got combined automatically, I don't know.
Is how I figure it SHOULD work.
