    Greetings,

I would like to know where Windows stores the information about its disks, free space on those disks, size of those disks, etc. Is there a certain text file somewhere that contains this information? Thank you for your time,

    Nick

Try going into My Computer, right clicking on the drive, and scroll down to properties. This should give you the info you want. About a text file, i dont know about that.

If you're speaking about the NTFS file system, everything that has anything to do with a file (file name, creation date, access permissions and even contents) is stored as metadata. The Master File Table (MFT) essentially contains metadata about every file and directory on an NTFS file system. It includes parameters such as location, size, and permissions. NTFS 5.0 was the third version of NTFS to be introduced to the Windows world by Microsoft. It includes several new features including: quotas, sparse file support, reparse points, distributed link tracking and the Encrypting File System (EFS).
