Taskbar Icon Size

two identical laptops side x side.
xp-home on one, pro the other.
same dsktp pics, same screen res., display settings, appearance and dpi settings as best i could go thru them piece by piece. I may have missed something....
Heres the grit:
the desktop and start menu icons & text are the same size, I choose the large icons - display prop/appearance/effects.
All other settings are in sync between the two units. I'm talking the appearance/advanced tab.
Right click open space on quicklaunch/view. Small icons selected. By selecting large icons, this made the taskbar icons way to huge-not acceptable.
As far as I can tell both units should have the same settings, but....
The taskbar icons & clock, the "All Programs" menu off the start menu and what I think are the system icons ( for ex: from regedit or system config) are all smaller.

It is much easier to see with pictures that I have overlaid to compare the two. If you can help please reply.

Have you tried - right click the Start button, left click Properties, click the Customize button, check Small Icons on the General tab, click OK and OK again?

 

yes. that changes the icon size to the start menu. the start menu. i say that twice cause it does not change the size of the icons if you go one step further into the 'All Programs' menu. The icon size for the icons contained within the taskbar, to the right-beyond the quicklaunch zone, those icons and the clock size stay the same. nope, thats not it either.
