Ive instaled/restored an XP HP Pavilion desktop.Everything is working so far flawlessly. It has a cable connected modem for the Internet service. It hooks up well enough to the Internet.Had to get to technical support,to have the password changed in order to run the Outlook Express(persons computer didn't remember it had to reset it at the cable service). So now both the Internet, and Outlook Express run correctly. With one caveat- a dialog box pops up asking for the Password. With a greyed out 'remember password'dialog box. That is,the check mark for the 'Remember Password'can be checked after entering the Password(within account settings). But the entry is still asked for previous to using the Send/Receive within Outlook Express.[ ]<- Help Here.

I went to the Tech support another second time-Cables Tech Support. And I was asked to look at a dialog box within IE for a connected Dial-Up.Of course there was not any.And I had supposed that this problem was not a 'back-end problem anyway. It was suggested to TS(Trouble-shoot the software configuration). As Im doing so at present. With my question here.

The following WindowsBB.com post states exactly what my situation is.An entry dialog box pops up everytime Outlook Express is activated /using the Receive/Send button. With a prompt to enter a password.Even though it had been added to the Account, and told to remember.

--------------Windows BB.com post on same problem --------------
    Outlook Express-Remember Password

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

The solution given here for this post in windowsbbs.com refering to a Microsoft KB article titled "Save Password Check Box Is Unavailable (Q137361) .

The XP computer/desktop Im working with is a cable modem connected computer. Whereas above this details that of a 'dial-up'connection.Im trying to solve the same problem. So should I take the advise as the same denoted for the 'dial-up'KB article refered to here ,Installing the ''Client For Microsoft Networks ".

+ A side note is the fact that I had set up the connection for an 'always on connection. Not a DSL(PPPoe),or 'Dial-up connection.I'm geussing the computer would behave differently for each connection type requiring specific properly installed network software configurations. As computers do.Ya know if the network protocols are not broken,I dont need to fix them.

    Of course.

Again It is HP Pavilion computer, out of warranty, having an XP 'Restore'done. This is complete.I had considered trying to put the protocal onto the computer. So when I was asked for a disk to do so,what I had was Restore Disks from the manufacturer. This is probably not pertinant though.

Im thinking that perhaps I could have,or should have used the choice of the Non'always on connection.Perhaps the reason the computer behaves this way.

At present everything runs fine exept for the problem with the XP requesting the password each time Outlook Express send/receive is engaged.XP SP2 is installed an running. With no further updates.

It is agrevating to the absolute novice of whom owns the computer.
    :(

    Hi WindowsBB.com ....

    Hi HP.com .....

Well after speaking to an HP technician via a chat session he suggested this :

Update for MSN 8.0 Outlook Express:Fix for adding existing accounts, losing passwords, and auto complete not working.(SP2369.ex).

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...&cc=us&softwareitem=pv-10778-1&dlc=en&lang=en

I was a little aprehensive about this being successful, since the HP Restore Disks, only creates a factory set of versions. So this means that the dated items on the drive might mean more incompatible problems.

Being again SP2 updated.Via Microsofts 'Update already. Following using Restore from HP 'Restore Disks received from HP for the HP Pavillion Desktop computer.

    Hi Microsoft.com

This link here from Microsoft (Hi Microsoft.com),shows something similar to the symptons for Outlook Express.

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/898123/

It refers though to an SP2 XP problem.

The hardrive for this Pavilion has to do a lot of work.Since it is only equiped with 256Mb of memory. The 'fix worked.

Note: WindowsBB.com readers. Do not download or install this patch unless you have first contacted an HP support representative. And have the same problem of the Outlook Express not remembering the Pw,following entering it in Accounts of the Outlook Express program.
