This is my first post, but hopefully it's in the correct forum. The search function provided no answers. As a result of what I think was a setting change in IE 6 mos ago, (I lost my notes) as I try to follow links, windows close, and new windows simply open with no option to go back to the original window. One suggestion was spyware, but I run SpySweeper daily, and Norton virus scan, Ad-Aware, and Spybot weekly turning up nothing but cookies. Anyone with any ideas? Thanks

    Hello XP dummy,

I think this is your problem:

IE tools > Internet options > Advanced tab > scroll down to "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts" and check.

    Regards - Charles

I had the same problem. Today, I uninstalled Yahoo Tools Companion and a Google something, I think Yahoo Google. I don't have the problem anymore. I can open multiple windows or websites.
But you already said you don't have anthing Yahoo. so...

Thanks to those who mentioned Yahoo!. Did a search and found an empty folder, which wouldn't delete. Went into Add/Remove programs and found something called Yahoo! Toolbar. I have no idea where it came from, but after removing it, the window problem seems to be fixed. Time will tell. Thanks to all.
