    Hi all,Newbie to this site.

Currently having a nightmare with my windows xp.(sp2)Im on a Toshiba Equium laptop.

Problem started a few days ago when i went to click on my favorites folder, the folder did not open, and i received a pop up asking if i wanted to send an error report to windows.

Since then things have gone downhill, some of my shortcuts are not working, for example when i try to open msn messenger from start menu i get the pop up... "the parameter is incorrect ".Ive uninstalled and reinstalled Messenger but the problem still persists.

I still cannot open my favorites folder, even by going into start>C:>My Documents and settings and clicking on the yellow star. The send error report keeps coming up.Is this folder corrupted??

Ive also tried various virus scanners, registry fix and nothing seems to solve the problem. Also tried a System restore, things were fine at first then everything happened over again.

I can post hijack this logs if anyone need me too.

Please someone help me correct this problem!!! Really dont want to reinstall windows xp!!!

    Many Thanks.

Ive just tried "scannow" on the system file checker and doesnt appear to have sorted the problem.

Also tried creating a new user profile, after i click on the name in the welcome screen,a blue screen is all i see...cant see no backround, shortcuts or folders.

Also cant seem to access a cd i put in my drive,so how can i back up any data on my system?!!!
Im on a laptop so only have one CD Drive

    Aaaaarrrgggghhhhh,im having a nightmare!!

Im thinking getting a professional to do a system restore, but is this wise seeing as i cant back up any data on a CD?

I've had a similar problem, shortly after all this happened my hard drive crashed and never restored. I did go to a professional. And no, you would not have to worry about stored information in most cases. All of my Documents, Photos, Videos, Music and Email Messages were all recovered.

The danger of losing stored information is in a disk format of the hard drive. Stay away from that and you should be able to recover most of your documents.
