Problem: I'm trying to share an external USB drive with a second computer, I have gone through the share procedure and set it up successfully - for one session.

When I logged on the following day, and then attempted to access the shared drive from the second computer I couldn't connect and got the following message:

"\\computername\sharename is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out it you have access permissions.

Not enough server storage is available to process this command. "

I have also tried mapping the network drive which, on the popup window, offers me a default drive letter of Z: and, in the folder box, shows a greyed version confirming the correct "\\computername\sharename "

When I try to use this I get the error message:

"The mapped network drive could not be created because the following error has occurred:

Not enough server storage is available to process this command. "

I've tried removing the share and then reinstating it with no success. At each attempt I rebooted both computers to try and give myself a 'clean' start. Clearly something is happening correctly because the proper identifier is visible on the second computer, and, when I remove the share from the main computer the icon and identifier disappears from the second computer.

Something is getting through but then it falls over. The odd thing is that it did work perfectly when first set up on a previous day, and I could instantly access and change files from either computer.

I have also followed the advice in MS Knowledge Base 177078 and inserted the IRPStackSize key at a value of 15. Still no change.

At this point I'm stuck - any help and advice would be appreciated!

    Thanks.

After further thought, and double checking that all permissions were in fact correct, there was only one thing left.

I increased the IRPStackSize key at a value of 18, and presto! It all works again.

I suspect the reason for the apparent failure may be due to the different loading on the shared drive. After I first, successfully, achieved the share I loaded a significant amount of files onto the drive. Only guessing but that may have been enough to cause the storage problem..Anyway with the revised value of 18 all seems well, (at present!! :D )

Is there any maximum value allowed for that registry key? I don't want to lose that shared drive again! ;)
