I can't add any search engines, and I don't have in search engines in the top right little area there. I've tried unistalling/reinstalling, updates, etc. everything I could think of. I'm not new to firefox, I've been using it for about 4 years now. It's not that much of a problem, but it's kinda annoying when I type stuff in there and hit enter, nothing happens, them I'm like, O YEAH!!!, it doesn't work :(

I was just curious if anyone knew how to fix it, or what could possibly cause that problem. Thanks in advance for anything!

Is this something which appeared in FF1.5?
The program should have a folder called "searchplugins" with pairs of files.
Howver, it should be possible to have any suitable extention . You should be able to have as many search engines as you want. Now, I remember having a problem with Search engine in one of the Netscape8.x. I had the searchplugins in my profile folder, but did not have it in the Program. All I did was to copy the searchplugins folder from the profile, and paste it in the program. So, check both places.
Finally, do you really have 1.5? The current version is 1.5.0.1, and you should be able to do an incremental update from Help|Check for updates.
Next, you will have to tell me how you managed to use Firefox for four years. I guess you are almost right, if you include the early manifestations

I have version 1.5.0.1. In the folder C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\searchplugins it has 6 pairs of *.src and a *png files (the defaults like google, ebay, yahoo, etc.) that come when firefix is installed. I lost you when you started talking about the profile???

It does not matter if you lost me or not. But each program is associated with a profile which drives the program, and may be there is something wrong with your profile. None of the fixes you mentioned trying would have any effect on the profile.
I am wondering what you have been doing since you mentioned having Firefox for four years. Was everything ok all along. I clearly remember having to create a new profile at about v.0.8.

This is probably way too simple to actually be the answer.

Right click on the toolbar and select customize. Grab the search box and drag it to the toolbar and drop.

    Not the answer? Sorry....

There is no Search box in Customize, but I have one.
On reading the original question, I am not sure if the Search box was there, or, if no new Search engines could be added to the existing Search Box.
Since then, there has been no replies from the original author, so we can go on to doomsday.
Would a corrupt file remove just the link to Searchplugins, or would it remove the folder? I don't know, but I, purposely, removed the Search "container" from the localstore.rdf in NS8.1, and the ridiculously large box was gone (yes, I backed up my original localstore.rdf file).
