    Hi all,

I accidentally uninstalled MS Paint, MS fax, clipboard viewer and all of my MS games. I went back to the Windows component wizard to reinstall all of these items, but they will not install at all.

I ran SFC /scannow checker to see if it would help any, but the programs still will not install. I spent about 2 hours trying to find a fix on Google, but have had no luck so far. Is it possible to download these programs from the web and install them that way?

    Thanks,

    I'd suggest a repair install.

Boot from the WinXP CD, and proceed with installing WinXP.

Do not choose the option to "repair an XP installation using Recovery Console" when prompted, choose the option to "To set up Windows XP now press ENTER "

After more files have been copied, you'll get another selection screen where you should select the current XP installation, & the option "To Repair the selected Windows XP installation, press R ".

    Thanks Arie,

Is the XP repair option more reliable than with previous Windows operating systems?

Well, besides Windows 2000, no older Windows OS had a "Repair" option when booting from the CD (if I remember correctly).

I've used it successfully on a few occasions.

Well, my repair install didn't help any. My OS must have been too far gone.

I deleted C drive and did a complete reinstall (With dialup  ) , but without deleting my other 3 storage partitions. Things are much better than before, but I still have slow typing cursor movement for some reason. Usually when I would do a reinstall of 98se (for example) in the past, the cursor speed would be re-set to normal speed.

Hope I get past WPA with no problems this time. I've heard of some horror stories about it from others.

Activation was successful. :) I am running a Dell OEM disk with XP Home on a custom built pc, so I'm not sure why the activation process didn't require me to phone-in to MS.

Did it right over the web with no problem.

This time I am going to save the activation files to a floppy disk and reuse them the next time around.

    Anyone ever tried that before?
