I recently installed eTrust Security Suite on a new Windows XP Pro system that connects to the Internet via a wireless card and access point in the building. The virus protection seems ok and the anti-spam is terrific, but the firewall is causing problems.

When the Internet is inactive for an undetermined length of time, the firewall blocks further access. If the system is rebooted, Internet access is again available until the next period of inactivity triggers the problem. I'm fairly certain that the firewall is the problem because I can I turn the Windows firewall on and the eTrust firewall off and immediately regain Internet access without rebooting.

The most obvious solution is to permanently turn off or remove the eTrust firewall and just use the Windows firewall, but I can't seem to do that without losing the anti-spam component that works really well.

(Before installing eTrust, I tried the free version of Zone Alarm and had similar problems.)

    Hello lee2000,

I don't use eTrust Security Suite or eTrust firewall. But, I found the following on their website in the FAQ's.

Thanks for the help. That sounds like my problem, but their method of solving it doesn't seem to match what I see in the firewall (for example, no Denials tab). I went to their technical support site, but live chat with a rep only led to sending me to a page about updating the stand-alone firewall. (I had to disable the firewall to access that.) Mine is part of their security suite and, according to the rep, seems to be a current version. I'm going to try the company's email support again today.

Check whether there is an option for 'Stop Internet Access after n minutes of inactivity' or something like this. Most firewall have this option.

Make sure the new connection is in the Trusted Zone. This would be under Firewall .I have a Linksys wireless router and mine looks like this
New network /192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0 / Network /Trusted along with my networked computers IP range.
When you first setup the firewall it would have asked what you wanted to do and Trusted would have been the correct answer. Yours might say Internet.
