I am currently preparing for a fresh install of XP on my computer.

I have AVG Pro installed at the moment with NOD32 on my laptop.
I would appreciate any advice on EZ Trust (new to me) but known to others.

NOD is very good when configured (the complicated bit)
AVG Pro has been fine for me also but as I am making a fresh start I am lost in choosing which AV would be the best for a new start.

I would apprecitae any opinions on EZ - all I know it is light but does that compromise the efficiency?

    Thanks in advance

Really... there's not much difference. I've had them all and all have worked fine. You're going to get as many different opinions as there are posters. Both AVG and EZ have small footprints and do not hog system resources like some AV's. Both are easy to configure and update regularly. Both are reasonably quick at scanning and seem to do a thorough job. My preference is for AVG (the free version) since EZ only offers its product free of charge for a year's trial. Best wishes.

    Thanks James

I think it is a 'me' thing read too many things and then confuse myself as to which is the best AV or firewall etc

I know NOD can be configured a lot more with the advanced settings which I have done on my laptop. I have never had a computer virus thankfully so any AV I have used has been fine.
I know opinions are varied for any software especially security

I was trying to make the best choice as I hope to keep any uninstalling to a minimum when I have my new setup (hmmm don't think that is possible)
AVG is heavier on resources when all components are added up, NOD is not just as heavy but still heavier than EZ which I have never used (just read about it)

I am making a disc to be ready with my security applications on it and then wondered about the choice of AV

Hopefully I will stay as safe as I have been in the past with careful e-mail management and on demand scanning before opening any files etc
I will keep with the AV choices I know and always maintain my security without loosing enjoyment of my computer which was happening to me (worried too much :( )

    Hi miniB:

I switched to ezTrust AntiVirus about 4 months ago from Norton and have been very please with it. Except for a couple of failed updates it has been very good. As you mentioned a light footprint, (important on a 98SE OS and lower end computer) easy to configure and so far has not let anything nasty through. I only have the AV not the suite. Updates are regular (almost daily) and are very small (usually 30 - 90 KB) so a blessing when on dial-up as I am.

The failed update thing is a bit of a pain, only happened a couple of times tho', but easy to fix by manually downloading and installing the av signatures from CA's sight, usually about a 3.5 MB download. Don't know why the update fails but assume for some reason it corrupts the av database.

ezTrust AV scans all executable programs that open so a very minor delay when you open, but you can exclude any you know are safe and speed up the the process.

Thank you John for your detailed reply from a user aspect of Ez.
I remember reading about update issues but had forgotten this was with this AV.

I appreciate all advice, very neat to know about the light footprint with a lower end PC as this may just help my sister who still has a 98se computer.
I will certainly give thought to my options as this is the first install I will need after the actual OS.

Thanks again to both of you :)
