My Friends: I have tons of files with .IDX extensions on my hard drive, taking up lots of space. Is it safe to delete these files? Are they temporary files? Or maybe I can delete some of these files? Please advise me. Thank you.

idx normally stands for some sort of index file. do u have any sort of file indexer or some pic viewer that 'thumbnails' images? quite often they leave the idx files behind but most image progs i've seen change the extension to something they prefer. like jasc uses .jbf or something like it

also be curious to know if they're hidden files? or just normal ones.

    .IDX files

I use the database program called Microsoft FoxPro a lot, and the table index files have a filename of (name).IDX. There is also a corresponding (name).dbf or a (name).dbc ... Do you happen to have the corresponding (name).dbf or (name).dbc files also?

I would think that unless you are running some sort of database (phone list, DVD list, etc) out of another program, it should be safe to delete those files. The creating program will complain or just recreate them if necessary.
    Good Luck

Even if Wakenaam was using software based on Foxpro, I do not think that there woud be 'tons of files'.
