Can any kind members please direct me to rectify my I.E. & Firefox browsers because I could not log in to www.microsoft.com & www.hotmail.com sites. The browser just "hung" and not doing anything. Other sites open almost immediately .
I did a full virus scan and even scanned with other spy ware or malware on my system but the defect persisted.

I am using Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 2.

    Thank you.

    Hello zipdrive,

Have you tried putting these two sites into your trusted zone?

    To check something basic:

Look at your HOSTS file: Windows > System32 > drivers > etc.

The standard HOSTS has the Loopback entry which looks like this:
    127.0.0.1 localhost

    Any other entries?

    Regards - Charles

    Hi Charles,
I found the following files in that Windows/System32/drivers/etc folder :

hosts file (127.0.0.1 localhost) No other entries noted.
hosts.msn (I have it deleted as it was not there earlier)
    lmhosts.sam
    networks
    protocol
    services

I have also entered the sites into the trusted zones. Despite that, I still could not get into microsoft's site. I have tried using AVG a/v, Trend Micro antispy, spybot scan, Hijack This... problem still persisted.

    :(

    Hello Charles,

I changed the Mtu settings in my D-Link ADSL router from 1500 to its default 1450 value and now I can surf into microsoft's & hotmail's sites.

Why was it that I faced browsing problems with microsoft's related sites and not others?

Thanks Charles for trying to help. I appreciate much.

    Hi zipdrive,

Thanks for posting back with the solution :)

I have little experience with routers, this is the first time for me that I've read of a router causing this kind of problem.
One suggestion is to post this in the Hardware section cross linking this thread. Perhaps another member can answer your question.

    Regards - Charles
