    Hey!!

I tried to reply to another thread, but it would not let me cause of the 60 day time limit.

I'm trying to repair IE 6 for Win XP SP2. It needs to be reinstalled. I've gone to add/remove programs and it not listed. I tried a website the I found suggested on here to remove IE and it does not work for SP2. I tried to reinstall IE6 but could not getting the response that a newer version was already on my computer. I've obtained all the updates, etc. I've also run the system file checker and nothing changed.

    Any other ideas???!!!

    Chris

That was a good thought, but it doesn't work for SP2. It kept asking me to put in the SP2 cd.

oowee--Did you put in the XP CD?
If yes, and you got a message (about inserting the WinXP CD) but that offered Retry as an option, click Retry and stay by the PC, since you will get several more such messages. Eventually (like 20 minutes or more) the Windows Protection procedure will go to completion and the little window will just vanish. Not very satisfying but it works. :)
There are other methods of repairing IE
    http://www.theeldergeek.com/repair_reinstall_ie_and_oe_6.htm
    http://www.theeldergeek.com/repair_ie6.htm

But almost all involve using the WinXP CD.

There is a work around which works under certain conditions--like having a I386 folder,
    http://www.helpwithwindows.com/WindowsXP/howto-24.html
The site may be down, but try it.
There also is a lengthy thread which may help
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=51023

The reference PeteC gave you says to reinstall SP2. Download SP2 from here
    http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/protect/windowsxp/default.mspx
and reinstall. Hope you are not on dial up. It is a lengthy download.

Wow, I really appreciate the help!!!! I will conquer that tomorrow and luckily I have high speed!! Even with that, SP2 took a while the first time. Will post back what becomes of it. I suppose that by redownloading the SP2, IE6 will be reinstalled, correct??!!

    oowee--
I am not sure I understand the present situation.
If you have installed SP2 over an earlier version of XP, you can uninstall SP2 from Control Panel|Add/Remove. Reboot. Then reinstall SP2--either from the download or from the CD. If that reference is correct that should fix IE.
