I have a Belkin ADSL Modem/Router with a built in Firewall. However, before i installed it i was using Sygate's Personal Firewall. I know using two software firewalls means they conflict with each other, is this the same with a hardware and software firewall?
Should i get rid of either of them?

    Thanks

    Alex

One word answer to both your queries - NO.

Two firewalls should not be installed on the same system. You can use any number of firewalls in your LAN - hardware, software or combination of both.

In fact a personal firewall on the PC gives you much more protection and control than a hardware firewall (or edge of network firewall). Hardware firewalls are setup normally to allow all data from LAN to WAN and to get the corresponding reply from WAN to LAN. Whereas in personal firewall, you can allow or disallow programs or even ports and target IP. [This does not apply to Windows Firewall which protects you only from WAN to LAN].
