Just before Christmas, I managed to fry my Motherboard, PSU and graphics board. Fortunately I was able to obtain replacements which were fitted by my brother in law and I also increased my DDR Ram to 1024 Mb. I also upgraded my trusty old WIN98 SE OS to Win XP SP2 Home Edition. I was able to resolve all OS intallation problems with the exception of installation of my six month old Lexmark X5250 all in in one jetprinter. The latter simply refused to install and kept coming up with 'Failure to communicate' and 'Microsoft Visual C ++ Runtime Library error Abnormal Programme Termination'. I tried all sorts to get the printer up and running - it had worked perfectly under Win 98 and the Lexmark Technical Support team also came up with numerous suggestions which did not resolve the problem. Fortunately I was able to install my old Lexmark X83 Printer which I had retired when I purchased the
X5250 and the X83 surprisingly worked fine. I and Lexmark had absolutely no luck in resolving the X5250 installation problems until I checked on Google and came up with the Windows BBS site. The solution was there under 'Visual C++ Library Runtime Error' and a quick Regedit and deletion of the Lexmark software threads allowed me to reinstall the X1250 which is at last working perfectly again. My grateful thanks to all at Windows BBS for your assistance in resoving a problem which caused me and Lexmark more than a few grey hairs. Please carry on the good work.

Thanks Charles and thanks for this great site. I am also a member of a Scottish Football Fans Forum
    http://www.pieandbovril.co.uk
Pie & Bovril has over 6700 demented posters who support various local Scottish soccer teams. In addition to the various soccer forums there is an E-chat Forum in which members can describe their computer problems and seek solutions. I have now posted a link to WindowsBBS in the E-Chat and have heartily recommended this site to all members. Regards Sandy

    Yippee

I have a Lexmark Z816 printer and after upgrading from Windows Millenium to Windows XP I kept getting the runtime error when installing the drivers and the **** error with voice "Cannot communicate with the printer" message

I spent a day and a half unplugging, uninstalling, reinstalling, shutting down, restarting, downloading drivers, emailing lexmark, all with no success.

Then I came across this which gave me some hope but didn't really understand how to use regedit.

Gradually worked my work through it and deleted anything with lexmark from the software in regedit, uninstalled everything, shutdown, restarted, reinstalled and IT WORKED.

Thank you for this it ends a frustrating weekend for me!!!!

    for anyone else who googles and finds this it goes something like this;

go to start then run and enter regedit.

    open the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder

Scroll down and right click on any folder containing "LEXMARK "

Delete this and any other LEXMARK folders

Then delete any reference to Lexmark in the software bit.

    Uninstall all Lexmark programs.

    Shutdown

Restart then insert lexmark installation CD and it should work.

I may have missed something but hopefully havent.

I am also a member of some Welsh football forums and will post a link to this site on there.

Just back from supporting Cowdenbeath FC (the Blue Brazil ) when I saw your post. Just glad to be of assistance. Surprised that Lexmark haven't twigged and issued general advice since I have been E-Mailed by two other sufferers with similar problems.
