    Click Start->Run and type: MSCONFIG

    Look in the startup tab for anything new or weird.

    other than a startup issue:

    shot in the dark = reset u'r appearance/theme to defaults. may be that color/font set to same color forground/background but ... that would take some doing on the the taskbar.

    additional thought ... not sure how they'd do it but ... placing an 'image' over the top that 'hides' the real stuff. but u'r button clicks wouldn't work if that were the case. eg - a screensaver 'on' immediately w/ a pic snapshot of a blue/blue taskbar. an image mask over the real taskbar.

    as for there being any programs in msconfig i doubt it i check them very occasionaly and wouldnt know what if any programs were added unless they are masked to look just like major working programs. and for a pic being placed over the clock and start menu i doubt he had time to do this, it was done within a couple mins from either the command prompt or from blue screen editing area.
