Hard drive HELP

I am experiencing problems with my western digital 45.0 gig hard drive. It's 2 years old and has started clicking when it spins the disk. The bios is having trouble acknowldging it and won't recognize it all the time. I am sort of in the process of upgrading my computer but I would like to save the hard drive. Does anyone know why it's making this noise... it sounds kind of like something is on the disk itself.(simliar to if you were to put an object on a record and the needle skipped over it). Is the drive just not good anymore??? I've never expereinced this problem before.

Did you go to their web site. At http://support.wdc.com/download/index.asp they have a download for a Diagnostics utility. You could also look through their Knowledge Base. (has link to it on same page)

 

If the hard drive is clicking it is gone. But the good news it that you can get a RMA from the manufacture if the hard drive is under 3 years old and will only cost you the shipping charge to the manufacture. Most of these company's will not ask not questions. If is in warrenty then it is done. You can check the status of the hard drive warranty right on the net . Man I have done this a million times.
