    WinXP Home, SP2.

When i use the mouse on the scroll bar, it will scroll for a couple seconds
then stop. After pressing the mouse button again, it will continue to
scroll to the bottom of a page/file/etc. I know this is not its normal
    operation.
I used to have a wireless mouse but got rid of it and now have an
intellipoint 5 button mouse. It is a USB mouse but i have the adapter and
am using the mouse port on the tower case (All my USB slots are in
use). All 5 buttons work as programmed and the problemis only
    noticed when scrolling.

Looking at the CP>System>devices>hardware>mouse it is showing 2 drivers -
    HID-compliant mouse
    and
    Microsoft PS/2 Port Mouse (IntelliPoint).

Could having 2 drivers be the problem?

    Thanks,
    savagcl

Last time I had an issue like this it ended up being video card drivers.

    Steve R Jones,

Could be, dont know, thats why i'm asking. If graphics card tho, its the
only indication of a graphics problem. I have the Nvidia GeForce 6600GT,
BFG card with a lifetime replacement warrenty. In game graphics (3D) and
normal graphics (2-D) look good and fast, no problems noted even in
    highspeed flying games.

    thanks,
    savagcl

Your pretty nice vid probably isn't the problem..

Does the issue happen on web pages and or applications like MS Word?

Normally on browsers (Netscape, Mozilla, and Firefox.
It will happen when i scroll through a large folder while looking for a certain
    folder or file tho.
Being retired, I have very few apps that require scrolling. No more office
work on my PC... :) :)
Well, OK, Wordpad, notepad, and scrolling a pictures or music folder, it
    will happen

    thanks,
    savagcl

I just recently had this problem. I had a belkin mouse. at first it worked fine, for quite some time, but then it jsut started acting up. skipping and freezing, locking into the scroll mode and so much more.

I originally did not upload the driver to the hard drive from the disk, so I tried that first and it started to work fine again for a while, but then went back to messing up.

The end result...? I went out and got a new mouse, this time one from microsoft. It's not wireless, but I haven't had the problem in a very long time. Not sure of what else to do, but mine was a evidently a mouse problem.

    Hello Clif,

Do you click inside the scroll column? I've learnt that Windows does not like this. Either click on the bar and drag it or use the arrows.

    Hey, Mattman, how u doing?

That may be it. Just from habit (to change focus i guess), yes i do click
the scroll bar. Just tried it a couple times and it didnt hang. Guess i'll
have to do some re-training on myself. :)
I'll monitor this and see what happens.

    Thanks, Mattman,

Actually, it's supposed to jump a long ways when you click inside the scroll bar. Clicking somewhere below the slider bar will cause it to jump down one page at a time (one page for each click of the mouse). Clicking above the scroll bar will cause it to jump up one page at at time. Clicking above or below and holding down the mouse button will cause it to srcoll continuously one page at a time until it's reaches the top or bottom of whatever it is you're viewing. It's pretty much the same in all windows apps. It's kind of handy for those documents that are long and you want to get to the bottom or top in a hurry.
