I know this should be easy to figure out but I have played with all the settings and still couldn't come up with anything.

Ok, I use Winamp to play video files that are downloaded from the web, that way I can resize the window and have a little bit better control of whats going on. But, when I installed iTunes, quicktime took over ALL video files that are opened in my browser. Each time I click a video it opens in a small square in the center of the screen. I only associated quick time with a few file types but it still opens MPGs and everything else except wmv.

How can I get winamp to open the files again!?

HELP: Quick Time took over my browser!!!

    Open Winamp.
Go to Options\Preferences\General Preferences\File Types and select the associated file types that you want to open in Winamp by default;)

You could to it through folder options, but the program would reset them when you open it.

andrewkeil--Following up on what Sid Zafran posted, once you have disassociated the file types from QuickTime, you will have to associate them with Winamp. Winamp should have a similar association option window that QuickTime has, or you could choose any file of a type you want to associate with Winamp|right click|Open With|Choose Program...|highlight Winamp from the list|check the box at the bottom "Always use selected program... "|OK.
You will have to do this with one file of each file type you want to associate with Winamp.

I already did all that, but in Firefox quicktime still plays the movies. I got winamp to work with the .wmvs now but not the mpegs. I never associated quick time with mpeg so there should be no reason it is playing them! AHHHHH

You might have to change it in the options in Firefox. In Firefox click tools>options>downloads and then click the button that says "view & edit options ". Find mpeg in the list, click on it to highlight it and then click the change action button. Select the appropriate line. If under "open with default application" it says winamp, select that one. Otherwise, tick the line that says "open them with this application" and then browse to winamp or whatever app you want and select it. Hope this does the trick.

Try re-installing Winamp, during install hopefully it will ask for preferred file associations. If not, check file associations after install. Reboot computer.

I had the same problem recently. You can uninstall Quicktime, but then firefox downloads the whole movie before sending it to Winamp, i.e. no streaming.

Get "DownloadWith ", the FF extension, and set it up for winamp - you can then right-click movies, mp3's etc. and select 'open with winamp' and it'll start streaming them straight away.
