Password in Internet Explorer Connections running Windows XP will not change

When I try to change my dialup password in Internet Explorer under Tools, Internet Options, Connections, Settings, then after I a Dial up connection is selected, click settings, then change the password, it always goes back to a different password that is 16 chatacters. This happens running Windows XP. The same procedure works fine running Windows ME. I have a short cut to m dial up connection that has the correct password. When I access the Internet I have to connect using the shortcut first then start Internet Explorer. The same problem exists in Internet Explorer running Windows XP when you try creating a new Connection. When ever you change the password it will always revert back to a 16 digit password when you click OK. Does anyone have any suggestions?

 

This is not a problem. This is the new way XP helps protect passwords. Notice that dots have replaced asterisks? No matter how few or how many letters/numbers make up the password, this is the way it will look.
As long as you made the changes correctly it will be fine.
Just try it and you will connect.
