I have a Supermicro P4SCT+II and I need to update the Adaptec onboard RAID drivers. However, when I go through the upgrade device driver wizard, it gets stuck just before it looks like it is about to finish (the progress bar gets right to the very end but then just sits there. Looking in the task manager, it makes the system process use up 50% of the CPU. Then when the system restarts, it gets stuck on the Windows splashscreen and i have to use the previous known good configuration to roll the drivers back to the previous version. I have got this driver to work on several other identical systems so I know the driver works.

Is there anyway of getting round this problem? All Windows XP updates have been installed. I have tried to install it in safe mode and also by closing any unnecessary processes/programs to avoid clashes

Strange. Sounds like file corruption. Remove the drivers completely off of your system. Re-download them and start again.
