In my house we have a wireless reuter. 4 computers are connected to the internet via the reuter, but we don't have a LAN according to the symbol of two computers with a red cross over them in the bottom of my XP screen (just left of the time display).

My friend on another computer in my house told me that he can view my Windows Media Player files on his computer in iTunes.

Does anyone know how to turn this function off so that he cannot view my files?

There are a couple of ways that you can go here.

On the router you can limit the connections to certain IP addresses and things like that. Do some research like this:
    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=wireless+router+security&btnG=Google+Search

On the PC side make sure your files are not in a shared folder.

It's hard to give more details with the little info that you gave but maybe it's a start.

chrisjb, if you are connected to the internet via a router, you have a LAN. The two computers symbol you are talking about is most probably your wired LAN card on the computer.

It seems that your music is stored on a shared folder. If you remove the sharing, nobody can access it. A much secure way is to turn off 'Clients for Windows Networking' and 'File and Printer Sharing for Windows Networks' in your LAN connection. This would stop anyone from accessing your computer thru LAN.
