I have a HP ZE4316 laptop which has USB 1.1, I wish to use a USB2.0 device on this laptop so I purchased USB2.0 PCMCIA card bus. No matter what I try I cannot get it to work on USB2.0.
I have tried updated drivers and areplacement card
My OS is winXP home with service pack 2
I have heard that others have had problems gettting USB2.0 to woth on HP laptops.
    Any Ideas?

What's the make/model of the USB2 card you have bought?

FWIW - A Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2 card works fine on my HP Omnibook xe4100.

You should not need any additional drivers for XP. Can you prove the card on another laptop? - it is possible that your PCMCIA slot is faulty or the driver corrupted. Try uninstalling the PCMCIA adapter in Device Manager and rebooting.

Your USB 2 device should work on your USB 1 ports, but at USB 1 speeds of course.

    Thanks for your replys
The PCMCIA cardbus adapter is a generic unbranded make
The PCMCIA slot on the laptop works with my Wireless LAN Card
Yes I know I can use the built in USB at 1.1 speed but the video capture device I want to connect will only work at USB2 speed

It seems a lot of people over on the HP forums are also complaining about the ZE models cardbus slots. Aparently they have problems operating a higher speed device (e.g. USB2).

If you plug a USB1 device into the cardbus adapter does that work correctly?
This at least proves that Windows/drivers are recognising the actual card correctly.

    A couple of thoughts

I am not familiar with this machine but I would suggest you make sure you have the latest BIOS level installed and also check the BIOS to see if it has a USB2 setting that requires enabling.
