I thought that it was gone but somehow I've managed to get him back. Here is the Logfile. I think the bad guy is the BHO called jkhfc.dll, SPYBOT also notices it but is unable to delete it. I cant get the spybot display into text format to insert it here. I also ran vundofix.exe but he did not find anything.
Can I just delete this file or am I totally off base?
I went back to hjt & tried to fix the 02 and 020 entries for jkhfc. fixed, scan - still there, closed all apps, fixed, scan still there. reboot, hjt fix, scan - still there. They are hard to get rid of

I agree with you on jkhfc.dll. However, it has two entries in the HJT log to remove.

O2 - BHO: WTLHelper Object - {BD6CD737-34E1-4864-8697-83EC081F1989} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhfc.dll

I recommend the following actions.

Download the trial version of ewido security suite.
Install ewido security suite and start the program from the icon on your desktop, then check for and download updates. Close for now.
Ewido Setup
Then Disable System Restore.
Reboot into Safe Mode, and then do the Ewido scan.

then i tried to delete it using spybot tools, it did not work either. did not think to try hjt but it probably would not work anyhow. The thing is flagged as a hidden system file.

here is the latest hjt after rebooting in normal mode:

question????

would it be safe to try to remove the file from a command prompt? I am wondering if I could turn off the system and hidden attributes with attrib and then rename the file. That should leave the BHO hanging & I should be able to delete it then. What do you think?

XP really doesn't have a real dos mode, and the command prompt available in XP isn't much help in this respect. However, if your XP partition happens to be installed on a FAT32 partition, you could use a Win98 boot floppy to get a dos prompt, but I will give you something a lot easier and convenient for use with XP.

What this does is add a new item to your right click Context Menu [Delete file(s) on next reboot]. You would simply go to delete files as you normally would using the right click, but use the new option. When you have selected all the files you want gone forever, simply reboot. It doesn't matter if marked as Hidden or System, if you can see it in Window Explorer, you can get rid of it this way.
Be sure to disable System Restore first, or else the file will simply be put back by System Restore. It is in the C:\Windows\System32 folder, and System Restore "believes" it should be there.
When SR is enabled again, that file, and the one that ewido found will be cleared out of SR.

foiled again

tried it, file survived. made sure system restore was off (it was) & tried again, file survived. tried 3rd time to just rename it, rename didn't take.

i will keep trying stuff. if you have any more ideas, i will try them.

i sure am glad that the firewall is blocking the outgoing traffic to winfixer, this would be a real pain without it.

read NTFS from Dos boot disk ( win98 etc)

Hiya,
The link below takes you to a freeware program that allows you to use a dos boot disk and yet still read NTFS partitions, if you can navigate your way to where those files are saved you should be able to delete them, another trick i found was that although I couldnt delete or rename a file in its original location it did allow me to move it, I moved one to the root directory then was able to delete it from there, no idea why it let me but got rid of it and that was the main thing.

worth a try anyway ....

NTFS Reader DOS Boot Disk provides read access to NTFS drives from the MS DOS environment. It supports long filenames as well as compressed and fragmented files. NTFS Reader for DOS allows you to preview the files on NTFS and copy them from NTFS to FAT volumes or network drives. In order to use the software you need to copy the readntfs.exe file to a bootable floppy disk and boot from it.

I might be fixed

I do not have a floppy drive, so I tried a few more things rather than run out and buy one. I finally deleted the file using killvundo.bat and then got rid of the references with hjt all in safe mode with several reboots. Please review the following hjt log & see if I have missed anything.
The only strange looking thing I notice is when running msconfig (the only way I have been able to get to safe mode) there is one entry under the STARTUP tab that is checked but has a blank name and blank command. The location is "HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run" just like all of the other Microsoft stuff. If I uncheck it, I get a warning everytime I reboot.
