Hi I wish to save some mp3 files onto cd disc. I have tried selecting the files (an album in mp3 format), right clicking on the selected and then sending them to cd I then tell xp to write them to disc which starts a wizard. THe wizard gives the option to write to audio cd or data. I select the data option. THe wizard then says it cant continue as the disc may no longer be writable. THe discs are definately writable as I tried to burn to one last night through mp10 in wav format and it worked fine. Is it possible to use mp10 to burn in mp3 format ?

Not sure if I am doing this right. Is there some easier way to save mp3 to cd ? or is there something wrong with the cd writer ?? Im pretty sure I have wrote mp3 to disc before and it worked (although I may be wrong on that).

Your help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks in advance - Glenn

are these CDRs or RWs? ... if RW, u MAY need to fully format it even if it's been previously formatted.

what make/model CDR? - u may/should need/get firmware updates for it. many DO require updates to work properly. the maker's site will have them. ensure it's the proper one and follow their instructs to update.

is xp fully updated? the express update will NOT get the highmat cd writting fix. u must do custom update on the site.

are u writing 'data' via WMP? u shouldn't. if all u want is data copies, use a normal burn program - one came w/ u'r CDR - or xp's builtin to just 'send to' the CDR drive. eg - mp3 files are fine as just data copies so u don't need to use any audio player to burn them.

Hi its a benq dvd dd dw1620

Apart from that I cant tell you anymore.

I think xp is updated but not too sure. How would I find out ??? I run automatic updates.

I think im out of my depth here.

It has b7tp firmware whatever that means.??

The discs are not rewritable imation cdr 52X and will let me write to them using wmp10 in wav format. It just wont do a normal data saving from xp.

MAny thanks for your continued assistance

    for firmware:
    http://benq.us/ServiceAndSupport/Drivers/index.cfm?productline=14

note: - they list a 1620 and a 1620 pro ... make SURE u get the right one.

for windows updates - just go to www.windowsupdate.com and do a 'custom' update. u'll find himat cd update in there if it's not installed already. auto update will NOT get this one.

my point on wmp 'doing' data type writes is ... don't ;) ... just find u'r MP3s in regular explorer, highlight them all, right click one and choose 'send to'.

from that menu, u should see a 'E:' or such that represents u'r DVDR drive if it's setup as the only burner. do that and u'll see a 'files waiting to be written to disc' pop up near the system clock.

click that pop up and choose 'write these files' on the left side. result = a data copy of u'r .mp3s

    Hi,

I updated the firmware to the most recent and did the windows update although microsoft claim it is no longer necassery and still the problem persists. I go to the D drive and tell it to write the files waiting to be written but it just sasys

The disc you are attempting to write may no longer be writable.

But the discs are writable as when I burn in wave format I can write to them.

Still baffled?? Any more suggestions please?

What burning program are you using? iTunes and Windows Media player will burn mp3 disks, although iTunes will burn faster. If you have a standard burning program, like Roxio or Nero, just burn the files as DATA.

    Hi,

I was trying to use the xp cd burning facility through explorer but it just wouldnt work. I got some advice through another forum and turned off the IMAPI service and did a re install of nero and as you have suggested NERO is working to burn the data files.

Thankyou all for your help and advice and I will return no doubt in the furture to enlist your help again.

    Kind regards - Glenn
