    Hi:
I just purchased a Seagate external hard drive and went to back up my pc and got this message (I was backing up "everything on my
    computer ".
I have a 20 gig pc, half full, and a 100 gig external hard drive.
    ERROR MESSAGE:
"YOU HAVE EITHER RUN OUT OF SPACE OR THE BACKUP FILE IS TOO LARGE FOR THIS DISK. NOTE; IF THIS DISK IS FORMATTED WITH FAT32, THE MAX POSSIBLE SIZE FOR THE BACKUP FILE IS LIMITED TO 4 GIG "

    Can anyone help??

You need to format the external drive with NTFS.

    NTFS is a file-system (ableit more advanced) like FAT, FAT16 & FAT32.

Right-click the drive in Explorer & select Format. In the File System drop-down, select NTFS.

    It worked.....but

    Hi Arie:
Yes, that worked; got my external drive reformatted and backed up my system; however, it wouldn't let me made a recovery disk. It gave me an error message, something about going on-line for help. Can you tell me how to make a recovery disk??
    Thanks much:)

    What software are you using?

Normally a "recovery CD" refers to a Windows XP -type CD that larger OEMs use. You'll boot from that CD, & it'll wipe your hard drive and re-installs the OS (and any apps provided by your OEM), so it will be in the same state as you first got it.

    RE; making recovery disk

    Arie:
Software for what? I just went to Accessories and back-up to backup my pc. it said something about a recovery disk, so figured I need one in case my hard drive crashed. Do I actually need one, or is the back-up copy of my entire pc enough in case of a crash?
    Thanks.
