    Hello All,
I Just put my very first system together, The motherboard is a biostar and the cpu is a AMD sempron the hard drive and the cd rum is from my older computer (Older computer is 2 years old) When I started the system for the first time and tried to booth the system with a xp professional full version I encountered a problem and the problem is a massage stating" NTLDR is missing press CTL+ALT+DEL to restartâ€. I did that and I got the same massage again this time I restarted the system for the 3rd time but this time before receiving the massage I pressed the F9 button to get to the boot from directory. when the massage boot from menu comes up I scrolled down to the boot from Cd , then I hit the key next window was a massage press any key to boot from Cd which I did ,
Set up started and the windows started to load the drives Files but once it stated starting windows, the system shut down and a buzzing sound started coming from the small speaker that I installed !
The noise stopped once I took the power cord out!!! I tried to start the system few times but same thing is happening. I have gone and bought a new hard drive thinking my old hard drive is not good but it dose the same thing with the new hard drive I have connected the hard drive by itself to IDE1 and the cd rum to the ide2 no change I have hooked both hard drive and cd rum to IDE 1 and no change I am baffled and confused.
    can some one help?.
P.S If I leave the system running while the massage NTLDR is missing press CTL+ALT+DEL to restart. Is there the system shuts down in few minutes and the buzzing sound comes from the small speaker and again once I take the power cord out the noise stops.

Jon, Sorry to hear about this frustrating problem. I still haven't been able to get my XP system to boot on it's own. I had to resort to installing a fresh copy of WinXP on a seperate drive and copying my files over. I just really think my software was corrupted beyond repair. I had this problem with W2k pro but was able to make it work great. I found the solution on this website : http://www.tinyempire.com/shortnotes...dr_missing.htm
There is a small file to download to a floppy that should get you up and running, with the hopes you can fix the boot files. It's all explained on the website.
Also, are you sure all your front panel connections are right? That would certainly explain the buzzing noise. Try downloading a manual from the Mfgr website if you don't have one.
    Good luck,
    Hammer

Jon, before doing anything check your CPU fan. Its either not working properly or not mounted properly. If a new computer shuts down with noise, its time to check the fan.

jon, i can understand ur problem as the same happened 2 me a year back. i have corrected the problem w/o formating n reinstalling, so i think it may help u too. there r few method and i suggest u 2 try them as accordingly.

    1. insert the xp cd n boot from the cd. wait until a user menu displays. press 'R' to activate recovery console. press 1 after it starts. enter ur admin pass. then type 'chkdsk /r'. after windows finishes checking. type 'fixboot' and then press 'y'. type exit. this should help u and if not go to next method.

    2. there is another method but i am not sure of that as i never tried. copy the file NTLDR from ur friend's pc to a bootable floppy. if ur partition is Fat32 then boot from floppy and copy NTLDR to ur c: drive by this command.
copy NTLDR.exe c:\NTLDR.exe. the command line should look like this
    A:\copy NTLDR.exe c:\NTLDR.exe.
if ur partition is NTFS them boot from xp cd and enter recovery console. when u get C:\windows insert the floppy that contains NTLDR and type a: and press enter. then type 'copy NTLDR.exe c:\NTLDR.exe'. if it get copied then it should help.

    3. this is a sure n certain method. then go to ur freinds computer running the same operating system as u with ur harddisk. attach ur hdd to his pc as slave, boot the computer. if everything is ok ur hdd partition will be shown after his partition. open My computer. on the menu go to tools-->folder options. click 'view' tab and uncheck 'Hide protected operating system files'
and also enable 'show hidden files and folders'. now go to drive C:. there u can see the file NTLDR. copy this file to your actual C: drive. thats all. connect ur hard disk to ur pc and boot happily:) :) :) :)

    Reply if ur pc boots.

Need to do a repair install

From your comments, it appears to me that you likely did not actually boot your system with the XP cd, but with the XP system that was installed on the HD from your old computer. The "ntldr missing" message does not actually mean that this ntldr file is missing but that the hardware in your new box probably needs to be re-enumerated by XP (or Win2K) before you can run again. This can be fixed by completely reinstalling a fresh XP or by doing a "repair install ". The repair install is a bit 'tricky' but you will not usually lose any installed software or data files. You can follow this link to fix this problem. (I suggest 'solution 2')
